    The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) invites applications for the position of Department Chair.

    The Department Chair is responsible for:
    • Administration and leadership of the teaching, research, and service in the Department, and for program and professional development of the Computer Science and Engineering faculty and staff.
    • Facilitating departmental faculty, staff and student recruitment, development, and retention.
    • Leading faculty and staff assigned to the department with major attention to professional development and evaluation.
    • Fostering interdisciplinary ties with appropriate departments and programs within the university.
    • Encouraging linkages with external groups to strengthen ties with industry, commodity organizations, public agencies, non-profit organizations, professional organizations, and the citizens of Nebraska.
    • Coordinating, developing and implementing plans for the maintenance, enhancement, and use of instructional and research facilities.
    • Developing and administering budgets for the department programs.
    • Promoting and sustaining excellence in the graduate programs in the department, with a focus on supporting the research endeavor through recruitment of highly qualified students at both the Masters and Ph.D. levels.

    Minimum Required Qualifications
    The Department seeks exceptional candidates who:
    • Have an earned doctoral degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a closely related field;
    • Meet qualifications for appointment as a tenured professor;
    • Have a record of high quality scholarship and competitive research with federal, state, and industry funding;
    • Have experience and leadership in institutions of higher education, industry, or federal funding organizations;
    • Have an understanding of pedagogies that will lead to student success and excellence in undergraduate and graduate education; and
    • Have mentorship experience and a commitment to inclusion and diversity.

    Successful candidates will demonstrate a clear vision for the department in the following areas: expanding research productivity; building strong undergraduate and graduate programs; supporting outreach missions to better serve the state; and promoting diversity and inclusion of under-represented groups.
